Getting ready for Open Churches Week 2017
It is important that across our churches nationally we are able to submit sufficient evidence that the scheme is broadly working, in making a difference on donations that it isn't possible to get a Gift Aid Declaration on, and to make some suggestions for simplification.
The scheme is worth £12 to £15 million to parishes across the Church of England, although the implementation was difficult on account of HMRC's original view on the connectedness of PCCs, until the National Stewardship Office of the Church of England were able to convince them that PCCs are independent charities.
The National Stewardship Office has provided some background notes to help respondents make sensible comments from an Anglican perspective. These notes are shown below or you can view the detail of the consultation here.
The Diocese will be submitting a response and would be grateful if those parishes who would like to participate in this would email Sue Bunting, Director of Finance, with their responses by 22 February. The responses will then be collated and submitted before HMRC’s deadline of Wednesday 2 March.
Claim submission deadlines – 5 April 2016
Please note all parishes must claim on small cash donations within 2 years from the end of the tax year that you collected them. Therefore, if you were able to claim eligible donations from the tax year 6 April 2013 to the 5 April 2014, you will need to do this before the end of this current tax year (5 April 2016).
