Getting ready for Open Churches Week 2017
Revd Patrick Richmond, vicar of Christ Church says: “For ages, the church has struggled with limited kitchen facilities and only one toilet. It has taken more than eight years to get this far, and the need for a disabled WC was in fact recognised around 20 years ago. We are indebted to legacies from the late Jonathan Phillips and the late Daphne Bass, which enabled us to start the £100,000 worth of building work ahead of our fundraising. We now have a new, disability-friendly toilet and a brand new kitchen area and I am delighted that this work has come to fruition. I very much hope that these improvements will enable more and more people to relax and enjoy themselves at our services, concerts and community events. There are plenty of such activities coming up. Do join in!”
There will be a service of celebration to mark the completion of the work on Sunday 26 June at 10am at Christ Church. The annual “Garden Service”, held in the garden of the vicarage, 161, Newmarket Road, will also take place on Sunday 26th June at 5pm, preceded by tea at 4pm.
All are welcome to attend both services and celebrate with Christ Church.
