40 Prayers for 40 Days encouragement

John Diksa lives near Grenoble in France and runs a charity called S.O.S Attitude which helps to raise money to respond to disasters. Recently, John and a friend drove to Moldova with a lorry and trailer containing tents and sleeping bags to help Ukrainian refugees.

John’s mother-in-law Hilary lives in Norfolk and shared that her daughter receives the daily reflection from 40 Prayers for 40 Days and in turn, shares it with her husband. On Monday 7 March, the prayer came from the Lutheran Book of Worship, you can read it below. John was travelling to Moldova and shared the prayer with an Orthodox Priest who said it was exactly what was needed at the time and is using it to pray with others.

John and all the staff at S.O.S Attitude are volunteers and have day jobs of their own. John has returned to Moldova to help assist with another 18 lorries full of aid.

40 Prayers for 40 Days is compiled and written by Revd Canon Susanna Gunner as a series of reflections to use during Lent.

Lord God,

you have called your servants

to ventures of which we cannot see the ending,

by paths as yet untrodden,

through perils unknown,

Give us faith to go out with good courage,

not knowing where we go,

but only that your hand is leading us

and your love supporting us;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(from the Lutheran Book of Worship, Augsburg, 1978)
