In December 1974 BBC Two aired A Passion for Churches, one of several documentaries written and presented by poet laureate Sir John Betjeman on topics he found of particular interest and importance.
Five decades ago this month, audiences were treated to a 50-minute meander around a range of churches in our Diocese, with Betjeman weaving each visit together with a characteristically rhythmic voiceover.
Churches featured or discussed in the programme include:
St Margaret’s, Cley next the Sea
Norwich Cathedral
St Botolph, Trunch
All Saints, Mattishall
St Peter & St Paul’s, East Harling
St Mary’s, Great Snoring
St Mary’s, Bylaugh
St Margaret’s, Felbrigg
St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham
St Peter Mancroft
