Between Monday 29 March and Sunday 4 April 2021, The Yare Valley Churches Running Club are attempting to run 500 kilometres between them to raise £500 for The Cancer Community Chest. All donations big or small are very much appreciated and will go towards making a big difference in people’s lives.

Speaking about the challenge Tom Woods the Sports Minister at Yare Valley Churches said this:

“Despite not being able to meet in person at the moment we were keen to come together as a club and do something positive for the local community. A number of our congregation at the church have involvements with The Cancer Community Chest so it seemed the perfect fit.”

The Cancer Community Chest is a small, registered charity, which is run entirely by an incredible group of dedicated volunteers. They raise money from selling donated goods from a shop in Brundall. However, due to restrictions caused by Covid-19 they’ve not been able to open for large periods of time and have lost out on a significant amount of income.

They exist to help those who suffer from cancer, or other diseases, injuries, infirmities, or disabilities of a life-threatening or otherwise debilitating or incapacitating nature affecting their quality of life. They look to help through grants to help with recuperative breaks, leisure activities, and trips/outings. They also assist with the costs of attending regular hospital visits for treatment and amenities or equipment which would improve quality of life.

Here is what some of the people who have received money from the Community Chest had to say:

“ A very big thank you for the grant money I received, It is very much appreciated after a very difficult year”

“I am very grateful for your generosity and thinking of me”

“I can’t thank you enough for your kind intervention”
