An update from our Racial Justice officer for the Diocese of Norwich

I am pleased to be sharing an exciting update. Danielle Chavrimootoo, the Church of England’s newly appointed Racial Justice Learning and Development Specialist in the Racial Justice Unit, has been working with colleagues to develop a foundational anti-racist e-learning module housed on Moodle with Marshalls Learning, a specialist in equality and diversity learning and development https://marshallelearning.com.

The module will hopefully be launched in October and will be housed in the Church of England Resource Hub. It is divided into six sections, takes 1.5 hours to complete, and can be worked on in stages. The idea of the module is to allow some modifications at the diocese level so that any context specifications can be developed to suit the local requirements (to a certain degree).

The module will include practical information, exercises, resources, and signposting to develop participants’ knowledge and understanding and equip them with the required competence to engage in anti-racist practice and action confidently.

The proposed aims of the module are.

• Evaluate concepts of race, racism, intersectionality and whiteness, privilege, positionality, and power.

• Develop the knowledge and understanding of the role of The Church of England in dismantling racism

• Gain an understanding of the skills and competencies of anti-racist practice at individual, diocese parish, and departmental levels.

• Demonstrate critical reflective skills of anti-racism in personal and professional practice.

The intention is to adopt a co-created approach to designing the content to ensure it suits dioceses’ needs and is underpinned by theology. Would you like to join the Content Advisory Group? This would involve reviewing materials, participating in online and face-to-face meetings, and periodically providing feedback on improving the e-learning module content between August and September. The time commitment would be approximately 10-20 hours, and participants will be paid for their time (subject to your current employment contract).

In addition, diocesan representatives are invited to participate in the pilot rollout of the e-learning module. This will involve using the e-learning resource and engaging in the evaluation focus groups and questionnaires, which will be shared with participants.

If you want to join the content advisory group or participate in the pilot diocese project, please email Danielle at Danielle.chavrimootoo@churchofengland.org by July 31st.

Meetings will commence around the week commencing 26th of August. If you have any questions regarding learning and development, please do not hesitate to contact Danielle.
