The ‘White Ribbon’ campaign started in Canada 35 years ago as a way to make a difference and end gender-based violence. Why is it still important?
- 70% of women in the UK say they have experienced sexual harassment in public.
- 3 in 5 women have experienced sexual harassment, bullying or verbal abuse in the workplace.
- Nearly a quarter of girls in mixed sex schools said they had experiences of unwanted sexual touching in schools.
- 1.4 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2023.
Something is deeply wrong.
The White Ribbon team work with 700 individuals and over 400 organisations to positively change harmful cultures, attitudes and behaviours so that all women can live without the fear of violence or harassment.
White Ribbon Day is on the 25th November. Will you highlight the campaign to your Church and pray for an end to violence against women and girls by men and boys? Will you perhaps hand out white ribbons and encourage everyone, especially the men and boys, to wear it to school and work and commit to positive relationships? Only by highlighting the issues and talking about them can we effect change.
