Medieval church bell makes way for King Charles III Coronation replacement

Celebrations are being held at Heacham Parish Church as a King Charles III Coronation bell is installed to replace one dating back to the middle of the 12th century.

The historic but no longer functional bell – believed to have been in situ since around 1150 – has now been removed and placed on public display.

As part of a project ten years in the making and funded by community donations, the commemorative Coronation Bell has been lifted into a newly built cupola – designed as a replica of the structure it has replaced.

Revd Veronica Wilson, Vicar of Heacham, said:

“This will be an exciting end to a project which has brought church and community together. The new bell not only celebrates the coronation of King Charles III but will provide a focal point for village generations to come, once again calling people to worship, marking high days and holidays and the Church’s presence in the life of Heacham.”

An interview with Revd Veronica has been broadcast on BBC Radio Norfolk during a two-day celebration event being held in Heacham. Listen here.
