Rural church community reaps benefits of Parish Giving Scheme

One of the smallest rural parishes within the Diocese of Norwich has received a one-off donation of £12,500 through the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS).

The parish registered with PGS last year and via either a link on the website or a QR code has now benefitted from the generous £10,000 gift, boosted to £12,500 through Gift Aid.

Churches can register with PGS free of charge, and will then be automatically listed on the scheme’s website so that those wishing to support a particular parish is able to make one-off donations or establish a regular direct debit contribution.

All money raised is paid directly into a parish’s account, with a further benefit being that donors are given the option to increase ongoing gifts in line with inflation – something that more than 55% of givers have currently opted into.

Robert Culyer from the Diocese of Norwich Generous Giving Team said:

“We were absolutely delighted to see one of our parishes receiving this very generous donation, towards their tower appeal, through the Parish Giving Scheme.

“This is the greatest reward my team can have. Our total aim is to support our parishes to encourage generosity and enable them to improve their financial position in order to fund their mission and ministry aims. The Parish Giving Scheme is an amazing resource which is already helping a lot of our parishes improve their financial situation.”

This latest good news comes as new figures published reveal the successful digital giving rollout throughout the Diocese. 70 online payment devices have been installed in church buildings throughout the region, with more than £100,000 being raised in the first year alone – surpassing a target of £70,000.
