The Church of England has over 10,000 churches in rural areas and 40% of those who attend church go to rural churches. The average number of church buildings per Church of England diocese is 377.
In the Diocese of Norwich, there are 640 church buildings.
By this measure, we have the second largest number of church buildings in any diocese in the country. Only the Diocese of Oxford has more, with 811 churches. However, the population density in the Diocese of Norwich is less than half that of the Diocese of Oxford, with only 520 people per square mile compared to 1,100 people per square mile.
