The ‘Prayer Warriors’ at Heartwood CE VC Primary School in Swaffham met together to write a message and a prayer for the online book of condolence. At Heartwood, there are Prayer Warriors in each class from Reception to Year 5.
They are involved in several activities at the school including leading the Christmas service, selling Royal British legion poppies for Remembrance Day and opening the harvest festival.
Following the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Prayer Warriors decided to write the message and prayer, and then visited the local florist to buy flowers. Then, they placed the flowers with the prayer at the War Memorial in Swaffham.
One pupil said;
“I am proud to represent the school, but also nervous, because it’s an important job.”
On the way back to school, they spent time in St Peter and St Paul’s Church for reflection.
The prayer reads:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving us such a wonderful person who served for 70 years.
We give thanks for her kindness and time given to us all. Please keep our Queen safe now that she is with you in heaven.
Amen
The next day, Revd Tori Venmore-Rowland, the assistant curate at St Peter’s and St Paul’s church then came to the school to spend time with the Prayer Warriors. Together, they wrote another prayer to share in Collective Worship.
The children like being Prayer Warriors because:
- I get to help people.
- I get to do fun jobs with Rev Tori, Mrs McMillen and Mrs Starman
- It’s an important role at Heartwood.
