“We have had a very exciting week here on the North Norfolk Coast – many cars and villagers (and a group of children from the local primary school) were stopped in their tracks when they saw a sight many folk never see and certainly only once in a lifetime – the 6 bells from All Saints Church being loaded onto a lorry to start their journey to Nicholson Engineering in Bridport, Dorset.
When they arrive at the bell works, they will have restoration work undertaken and a new frame and fixtures and fittings will be made ready for their return later in the year.
We are immensely grateful to those who have supported this project either financially or with giving up their time and expertise.
We have so far raised around £63,000 of the £80,000 required through a mixture of grants, fundraising events and personal donations. A big thank you to those who have already donated, we couldn’t do it without you. Please do consider helping us with this last push!
We have a couple of fundraisers coming up – firstly, we are organising a fun variety show “Upper Sheringham’s Got Talent” (no judging, just for fun) taking place in the Church on Saturday 7 September at 7pm. There will be a wide variety of acts including organists, handbells, singers, readings etc etc. Tickets are £12 in advance or £15 on the door (light refreshments will be served in the interval). Please do support us if you can! Tickets available from Sue Morton (01263 826078 or suejmorton@gmail.com)
Secondly, we are organising a Grand Draw to be drawn at the end of the year. Tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book. First prize is Two National Trust Family Day Passes, second prize is a Round of Golf for 4 at Sheringham Golf Club and third prize is a Sandringham Teddy Bear. There are many other prizes and experiences so why not try your luck! Contact Sue (details above) if you would like to buy some tickets or think you could sell some for us.
If you would like to donate, please send a cheque (payable to Upper Sheringham PCC) to Sue Morton, 4 Linden Grove, Sheringham, NR26 8PD. Alternatively, if you wish to donate electronically, go to www.gofundme.com/upper-sheringham-bell-appeal.”
